So I got impatient. I wanted to try the stout before Stuper Bowl Sunday to determine if I should even bother letting the boys drink it.
Ok, here are my thoughts. The beer was opened after chilling in the fridge for a couple of hours so it's still a little warm. It should be better cold and after at least a couple of days in the fridge. So what I give the boys on Sunday should be a little better then what I experience now.
I opened the beer and it released a pleasant carbonated hiss. Nice!! I was worried it might be flat. I noticed CO2 gas emitting from the bottle. Even better!! I noticed the beer foaming up to the top just a little. Now I'm really encouraged. I poured into a standard tumbler and got a great looking head. The head was a light brown. Just like a stout. I held the glass up to the light to check the color. I've have NEVER seen a beer so dark. It's black. I mean black. No light at all shined through. Not sure what to think about that.
After a couple of sips I decide it is defiantly stout. That's important to me. If you gave me this beer and didn't tell me anything else about it I would identify it as such. If you blind folded me, I would identify it as such. I've made, in my opinion, my first identifiable beer. Stout is easy to identify so maybe I shouldn't get too excited. I can say that this beer is better than my last which is also important. Still not good enough to encourage people to drink it, but if they want to drink it that's cool. Kevin doesn't seem too picky so I expect he'll drink it happily. Ellie thought it wasn't too bad either. And she doesn't like stout.
I'm almost through the liter now and I can say that it does seem a little flat. Not much carbonation in the beer itself. It think it would be much better if it had carbonated better. Pleasant buzz.
Gotta go spend a ton of money to upgrade my equipment for a partial mash. Peace and love. Peace and love.
