Time to switch it up beyond the Mr. Beer kit. So, I did my homework and bought equipment from MoreBeer. Ellie and I get an allowance every month and I've got a bunch saved up so I splurged. I went ahead and got the best thing they had going. I went with the "Personal Home Brewery #5". Of course there were many different places I could have got equipment from. I went with these guys for the kegging system and the sweet pot. While I'm ordering the equipment, I thought, I'm going to need some ingredients for beer. So I ordered that too. After ordering the equipment over the weekend I got an email from the good people at MoreBeer saying that my order won't be shipped. So I called them. It creeped me out a little since at first I got a recording of a person and after I dialed around I got a human that was the exact same person as the recording. I wasn't sure if I was talking to a person or a recording. Anyhow he tells me that they can't ship because they don't have the pot. They'll know more in a couple of weeks. A week or two later, I get another email from them saying they won't ship. I call. Again. And they say that the burner is out of stock. They'll know more in a couple of weeks. At this point I get impatient and buy a small one gallon kit from Brooklyn Brew Shop. Link = http://brooklynbrewshop.com. This one gallon kit come with grain for a brew and I picked the "Well Made Tripel". Over a week later and I'm still waiting for that to show up. Man! Can a squirrel get a nut?
Finally the MoreBeer kit ships and gets here Wednesday. I am excited! I start going through the inventory and notice two things. First, the plastic fermenting carboy is smashed to hell. Second, the extract kit I ordered is there and so is another one. Apparently one that came with the equipment. Now I got one smashed to hell fermenter and two batches that need to get made since the grains have been ground and will not keep well for too long. It was clear that UPS smashed up the carboy. I didn't know what to do. So, I called MoreBeer and told them about it. They were very cool. They shipped me a new one right away. I asked the guy on the phone if he wanted some pics thinking it may give them more ammo to make a claim to UPS. He said yes. But the internet was down. It was down for the whole town. Luckily it was up the next day and as soon as I could I sent the email with the pics to him. I wanted to see if this carboy was even usable so I blew into the carboy as hard as I could and it popped out. I figured as long as it doesn't leak, I'll use it one time until the newly shipped carboy arrives.
Other than that, everything was there. The keg is defiantly used. Defiantly. But it's mine. All mine. It needs to get cleaned real well. Ellie and I went to Home Depot Thursday and got a propane tank. I'm ready to brew. My bank account took a hit but I'm happy.
